Keep calm and write on.

I’m so excited for Write of Passage to start tomorrow. It’s a cohort-based course that “helps you overcome your mental roadblocks and share your best work.”

It’s been more than that to me. I’ve been publishing on blogs since 2004, but I didn’t think of myself as a real writer (whatever that means). Other people’s blogs were more entertaining and seemed to provide some clear value to their readers. They were such a joy to read and so enjoyable. I never even bothered to think I could write the way they did.

After taking the Write of Passage course for the first time earlier this year, I felt like I was given permission to take my writing more seriously. The experience helped me believe that I could write better, shape it my own way, and express how I want.

I still haven’t quite figured out what IT is I want to contribute and distribute. I’m not sure what, if any, significant creative work I can come up with to share with others.

But without a doubt, Write of Passage gave me enough courage to own the space I breathe in and the determination to put myself out there. I’ve let myself be vulnerable and learn / fall / get up / create in front of an audience.

As the brain of Write of Passage, David Perell, emphasized a few days ago: “Taking action and shipping are the central themes of Write of Passage.” And that is what I’ve been doing, and trusting the system while having a lot of fun writing.
