Beach day then bookstore

The kids are back to school tomorrow after being home for ten days for their spring break. TEN. I need a break now.

We did some fun stuff with them on some days. I felt a little guilty that I couldn’t take time off but I was just in Mexico last week for a work retreat. I can’t be taking a vacation after a vacation!

But my husband took some time off, and I was able to hang with them. We watched the new Super Mario Brothers movie, played outside, and drove to the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz for the rides, mini golf, and arcade.

I went with them to Santa Cruz to hang out at the beach. It was a bright, warmish, sunny day. Some kids were playing volleyball in the sand. After sitting in the sun, I walked a mile to the local bookshop, leaving my husband with the kids. I do my best to avoid rollercoasters.

But they almost left me behind that morning. I was on my laptop in the kitchen, working with my headphones on. Then I suddenly realized they were gone! I swore there were here seconds ago. I called my husband, and they were just down the road, so they turned around to pick me up.

When I got in the car, I asked him, “Why do you think I woke up at 4:30 this morning to work?”

“I thought you were just driven.”

“Yah! I was driven to finish work early so I could go with you guys!!”

I guess they said “bye,” but I didn’t hear them. Good thing I caught them in time. I would’ve missed out on a really good day.
